Modern Equestrian Retreat

Designed by McClellan | Tellone, this equestrian property brings architecture, interiors, and landscape together with a clear sense of restraint. The barn’s low horizontal roofline, graphic black fencing, and quiet material palette create a modern presence without overwhelming the natural setting. Kara approached the project by documenting both the larger architectural gestures and the practical details that support everyday life with horses.

From a distance, the barn reads as a simple pavilion set among mature trees. Broad overhangs and open-air circulation give the structure a sense of lightness, while the paddocks and pathways create an organized rhythm across the property. Wider compositions show how the barn sits within the landscape and how the surrounding architecture, water feature, and grounds relate to one another.

Closer views reveal the care given to the working spaces. Dark metal stall fronts, warm wood doors, integrated storage, durable flooring, and generous covered areas create an environment that feels refined without becoming precious. The design remains highly functional, yet every material and transition contributes to a cohesive visual language.

The horses are an essential part of the story, bringing movement, scale, and purpose to the architecture. Kara photographed them within the stalls, paddocks, and surrounding landscape, allowing the imagery to communicate how the spaces are actually used rather than presenting the barn as an isolated structure.

The final photography captures a fully considered equestrian environment: calm, graphic, practical, and closely connected to its surroundings. By documenting the architecture, landscape, working spaces, and horses together, Kara created a complete visual story of McClellan | Tellone’s design and the thoughtful relationship between form and function.
